Organized Style aboard Cadillac’s SRX
When designing a car, the people at Cadillac definitely knew the needs and wants of SRX’s drivers. With plenty of design innovations as well as additional storage areas, the SRX is the perfect car to hit the road this summer because it is not only functional but also stylish and trendy.
When engineering the car, the company held the philosophy of not only maximizing the total space in the car but to “have a place for everything and everything in its place” said Elizabeth Pilibosian, the chief engineer for the SRX. She further added that they “put a lot of thought into what kinds of items Cadillac customers would want to bring into the SRX and where they’d want to put them”. The company therefore created the unique Cargo Management System which is designed as an ideal companion for long weekends and driving vacations.
In back of the car, the rear compartment Cargo Management System uses an innovative segment-exclusive U-Rail track system. The system, which comes with an adjustable cargo fence that separates the space to contain items of different sizes also restricts the movement of objects when the car is moving. The cargo fence can be removed, retracted and also hides conveniently beneath the load floor when it is not being used. Although sturdy, the fence is easy to move around and the U-Shape track adjusts to different positions to suit different items and packing arrangements.
Open SRX’s rear programmable lift-gate and that open up the space to 29 cubic feet of storage space behind the second row seating, which is more more than enough room for four rolling suitcases, sports equipment and other objects. Owners that use the 60/40 split rear seats folded flat, will benefit from more than 61 cubit feet of space which will let them store items such as a bicycle or a baby stroller.
One of the nicer and more functional design features that was incorporated is the waterproof bin, that measures 26 by 12 inches deep and hides neatly under a latch. The bin can be used for many things, for example, hate to get your car wet when you are coming from the beach? The bin is ideal for storing damp or dirty items. The bin can also be transformed into a cooler if you add ice, or simply can hide small items you don’t want laying around. There is also a smaller secondary bin which holds the car’s tire inflation kit that can be used to pump your bicycle or beach toys. Two other discreet bins are also found flanking the main bin and are perfect to hide small tools.
Inside the car, there are also a plethora of other storage areas, Cadillac did not oversee how important storage space was for SRX’s owners. For example, each door has an upper and also a lower bin, the glove compartment can be air-conditioned to cool food and beverages and the rear seat fold down console hold cups that is engineered to actually lay flat on the seats. The car also comes with four power outlets available in the front row, second row and rear cargo areas, USB port in the center console for access to iPod or other electronic devices which are of great use when hitting the road for long distances. The center console offers an upper level for small items like an MP3 player or mobile phone, and a lower level for larger items. Cup holders in the front seats are what is called “dual-level” and have a retractable floor that let users go from a small coffee to a large with the flip of a switch, a neat false floor also creates a secret compartment that can hide valuables such as a wallet or a watch.
The company has undergone changes in the last years and sought to carefully engineer their cars and offer even more advance technology. “We know that SRX customers are active people who value enriching experiences,” Pilibosian said. “They expect their journey to be just as enjoyable as their destination, and the SRX is tailored to meet their needs and exceed their expectations.”
